Fisher-Price Pixelvision PXL 2000 black and white camcorder, manufactured in Japan by Fisher-Price Toys Ltd, 1988. Designed as a children’s 'toy' camcorder in the United States, the PXL 2000 soon attracted the attention of video artists and became a new art form called 'Pixelvision'. The camera used a 90 minute audio tape cassette, which ran at about 30 to 40 inches per second, giving a recording time of only about 10 minutes. The video was recorded longitudinally (no spinning heads) with low resolution and a slow frame rate. The black and white pictures are therefore very grainy.
